Hi! I’m Melissa,

Registered Social Worker
(BCCSW) – #16230)

Provide Child-Centered Play Therapy under supervision.

Offer services in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English.

My journey of working with children began at a children and family service centre in Hong Kong, where I had the opportunity to work with children from diverse cultural backgrounds and with a wide range of emotional and support needs. Some children were quiet and hesitant to engage, while others expressed their feelings through anger, worry, or frustration. Through building trusting relationships with them, I learned how important it is for children to feel seen, heard, and understood. These experiences shaped my belief that meaningful, trusting relationships are at the heart of supporting children and helping them feel safe enough to express themselves.

Parent Involvement Matters!

Supporting a child means supporting the people who care for them. Parents play an important role in their child’s emotional well-being, and I see them as valued partners in the play therapy process. Through parent consultations, I work alongside parents to navigate parenting challenges, better understand their child’s needs and behaviours, and find practical ways to strengthen parent-child connection.

My Approach

My experiences working with children have taught me that a trusting relationship is the foundation for children to feel safe, understood, and accepted. Child-Centered Play Therapy places the therapeutic relationship at the heart of the process, creating a safe and accepting space where children can play out the experiences of their inner worlds in sessions which facilitate them process negative emotions and unresolved issues. Play is a child’s natural language. Children can play in many ways that they like to express feelings, explore experiences, work through challenges, and discover their own strengths and inner resources.
